Welcome to the Carmel Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4444 Website! Local 4444 is a labor organization that represents firefighters, paramedics and officers employed by the Carmel Fire Department with a total of 149 members (145 active, 2 retired active and 2 firefighters that are in the military). The Carmel Fire Department is a paid municipal department comprised of sworn/uniformed personnel (9 of whom are sworn/administrative staff members). In addition, the department has 8 full-time and 2 part-time civilian/administrative staff members. The Department serves a jurisdiction of more than 51 square miles and an estimated City/Township population of more than 64,000.

Our commitment to our craft, along with our Carmel/Clay leaders, ensure that our education/ training programs and the necessary equipment are provided to our professional personnel allowing us to perform fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous material remediation and mitigation, fire prevention and many other important community and departmental services… second to none.

We are dedicated to the protection of life, property and the environment for those citizens who live, work, visit or invest in our community, while simultaneously protecting the health, safety and financial security of all of our members and our members’ families.

St. Patricks Day Pumper Pull 2010

The Carmel Pumper Pull 2010 is brought to you by Brockway Public House and Carmel Professional Firefighters Union Local 4444.

Proceeds from the Carmel Pumper Pull 2010 will benefit the Carmel Firefighters Bereavement Fund.

The Meeting On Tuesday, March 9th Has Been Moved To Station 41's Conference Room.

In case you weren't at the February meeting, President Bowles announced that we need to move the March monthly meeting back one week. This will allow for Sheriff Carter to come to the meeting.

March 9, 2010 -- The IAFF 17th Canadian Legislative Conference is fast approaching, and affiliates planning to attend are reminded to complete their Conference registration, make hotel reservations and make lobby day appointments with members of Parliament. The Conference is scheduled for April 25-28, 2010, at the Delta Ottawa Hotel. Conference brochures were mailed from the Canadian office to affiliate presidents and secretaries.

National Ban on Flame Retardant Chemicals

March 9, 2010 -- Over the past several months, the IAFF has been working with the chemical industry to structure a national withdrawal of the controversial brominated flame retardant, Decabromine, from the market. “The IAFF is proud that we played a major role working with our congressional and administration allies and with the major manufacturers of flame retardant chemicals to ban Decabromine from the market by the end of 2013,” says IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger.

DHS Releases FIRE Act Grant Workshop Schedule

March 9, 2010 -- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has posted the schedule for applicant workshops for 2010 Assistance to Firefighters (FIRE Act) grants. The schedule will be updated daily with any new/updated information about the scheduled workshops. The IAFF encourages affiliates to work with their fire departments to apply for FIRE Act grants, which help fund training, equipment, protective gear and emergency vehicles.
